Inventory & Database Management

ORM develops and uses forest inventory systems which use MS Access relational databases for data input, storage, reporting, and updating. These systems link to a GIS for mapping, spatial queries, and analysis.

The ORM analytical staff have experience and knowledge in inventory validation, timber cruise design, sampling, forest stand typing and quality assurance checks such as inventory-to-cutout analyses or plantation green-up compliance.

We can help with data management solutions that meet SFI or FSC sustainable forest resource inventory and activity tracking requirements.

With systems and people capable of dealing with both uneven-age and even-aged management regimes, ORM can track components such as:

  • Species-specific diameter tables

  • Timber volumes by age and site class

  • Acres categorized as available or unavailable for harvest

  • Silvicultural history

  • Archeological site locations

  • Snag counts and down, dead, woody debris

  • Other non-timber resources including spotted owl nest trees, legacy groves, riparian management areas, and special management zones

  • Road Management and Abandonment Plans (RMAP) identifying fish crossings, culverts, bridge, and gate locations

We can accommodate additional data tracking to meet client needs. Standardization and simplicity allow ORM to be efficient and make the most of economies of scale, but we allow for customization to help us meet specific client needs.
